Nucelis to Present at Bio World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology
SAN DIEGO - April 7, 2016 - Nucelis announced today Sean O’Connor, Ph.D., Nucelis President and CEO, will speak at the BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology in San Diego, Calif. on April 20. Dr. O’Connor will explain how Nucelis successfully leverages the versatility of its proprietary technology and production platform to deliver high-value, functional and sustainably sourced ingredients to the nutrition, personal care, and flavor and fragrance markets.
Dr. O’Connor is a panelist on the Renewable Chemical and Biobased Materials Track in the session “Challenges and Opportunities in Commercializing a Fermentation-Based Production Platform.” The session examines the path that Nucelis successfully navigated in taking a fermentation-based chemical production project from ideation and early development, through the R&D process, and ultimately to successful commercialization.
“For the last three years, we have faced challenges in strain development, fermentation, downstream processing and market development,” Dr. O’Connor said. “However despite the challenges we have encountered, we have developed viable solutions that have led to the imminent commercialization of our first product, squalane. The BIO World Congress is a great opportunity to share the news of our first family of ingredient products, which include squalane, unique oil products for the personal care market, and Vitamin D2 for the human and animal nutrition market.”
Dr. O'Connor, who was named President and CEO of Nucelis in 2013, has over 30 years of management and research experience in the specialty chemicals business. He worked with Chemtura Corporation, where he was Vice President Plastic Additives Group, Vice President Strategy and finally President of Petroleum Additives. He also worked at Crompton Corporation and Adibis, a subsidiary of BP Chemicals in the United Kingdom, before relocating to join Witco at its World Headquarters in the United States in 1994. Dr. O'Connor is an inventor on over 25 U.S. patents, and has authored numerous scientific and product promotional papers. He received both his Ph.D. and B.Sc. Honours in Chemistry from the University Of Bristol in the United Kingdom.
Now in its 13th year, the BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology is the largest industrial biotechnology event for industry leaders, investors, policy makers and academics in biofuels, biobased products and renewable chemicals.
